Monday Morning Mentions is an opportunity to reflect on the events of the week at the Armchair Genealogist and in the blogging and book community. Over my morning cappuccino, I will take the opportunity to share with you some of my favourite blogs posts this week and give a nod to my peers.

If you have ever pondered the possibility of becoming an accredited and or certified genealogist then I urge you to read Valerie's post this week at Family Cherished. Valerie compares two boards, the credential process and their respective requirements. A handy chart for those interested, read The Contract, The Basketball Player and the Genealogist or Why Get Certified? 

And while were talking genealogical education, read Shelley's post at A Sense of Family. Shelley shares her knowledge and experience with a certain home study course, read Why I Recommend the NGS Home Study Course. 

Kenneth Marks at The Ancestor Hunt identifies why you may not be having fun with your genealogy research and offers some tips to get you back on track. Read Why Aren't You Having Fun with Your Family History Research?

At the Indepth Genealogist author and genealogist Michelle Goodrum offers Ten Tips and Reasons to Transcribe Documents. It can be a pain but Michelle offers some great reasons why and some tips to getting it done. 


Ever fumble around trying to find where you filed those articles, blog posts and notes. This week, I came across an article that I thought offered some great tips, read 5 Step Plan to Better Document Tagging written by Robert Oschler. 



Social Media for the Genealogist - this will include social media advice and learning opportunities from experts both inside and outside of the genealogy industry.

The Social Media Examiner brings us this week a great post for bloggers, 21 Business Blogging Tips From the Pros. A very nice list of tips you should definitely check out. 



Writing Family History - great advice or information on writing your family history.

Not sure how to start that book outline using index cards, don't miss this great tutorial by Alexandra Sokoloff in Nanowrimo Prep: The Index Card Method and Grid 

Ramsay at the Blog Tyrant discusses just what qualifies as good writing, read How to Write Gooder: The Controversial Guide to Good Writing (and Not Sucking) 


Productivity and Motivation for the busy genealogist - we all struggle with juggling family life, research, writing, blogs and on and on. Each week I'll choose a blog post that just might give you that little push you need. 

This Week's mention:

Pat Flynn at Smart Passive Income sheds some light on The Sad Truth About Your Unfinished Projects through his own personal experiences. 

Then Thorin Klosowski at Lifehacker Australia offers some hard core advice for those who want to get serious about reaching those goals,  How to Motivate Yourself to Actually Achieve Your Goals.









Books that Move and Matter - each week we will feature an ebook or print book with the family historian in mind. It may come as a great source of information, for research or writing or playing to our historical interests, or may just be a great read I think genealogists will love.

  This week's book will help you to digitize your family history photos.  Geoff Rasmussen's new book Digital Imaging Essentials. Geoff's book is aimed at genealogists who are looking for an easy-to-read-guide that will aid them in digitizing, organizing, preserving, sharing and backing up their digital family history photos. You can pick-up the PDF copy in the Legacy Family Tree Store or pre-order the paperback version.
