The Family History Road Trip!

This week it's all about those family history road trips. Summer is the perfect time to get out on the open
road and take in those specials places that can bring insight to your family history stories.

Family history road trips come in all shapes and sizes.Your road trip might be a tour of a cemetery or an afternoon at the local archives. Maybe you spent a weekend touring an ancestral hometown or you took a summer vacation and explored the country of your ancestors.

Regardless of the size of your trip,  family history excursions can be incredible opportunities to advance your research and gather family history stories. A road can rejuvenate both the body and the mind.

Today begins week 2 in our Out of My Armchair Summer Adventure Contest. This week, we encourage you to share a picture of a past family history road trip. Post your photo on our Facebook Page and you could win a 1-year subscription to FindMyPast.com.  You have until Sunday midnight to upload your favourite photo. Fill free to share a few words about your photo. At the end of the week,  one lucky person will be chosen through a random draw.

Today we will announce our Week 1 winner! Stay tuned.

  1. That is such a great idea. I have never taking a family history trip before. I have a very small family and it would be nice to get to know a little more about them. My family and I were thinking about getting a resort in Nicaragua for our next vacation but I think a trip to Florida where most of my family lived would be a lot better. Thanks so much for the great idea!

  3. I'm just back from a 2 month trip in Northern and Outback Australia which turned up members of my various family branches who I had never met before - plus visiting my grandparents' graves in a distant country graveyard. Also hearing stories of how my grandmother died.

  4. I really love this unique idea. It's really awesome. It helps us to think widely about our ancestors. Next time, when I will visit Riverside County, CA, where my ancestors was there, I will definitely keep this thing in my mind.

  5. I love going on holidays with my family. we had been to many places and every time it was a great fun to be with my mom, dad and my elder brother. Recently we went on holidays to Ireland and we hired a car from Dan Dooley car rental. It was a marvelous drive on the roads of Ireland. The car was in very good condition and that's why we enjoyed our journey a lot.
